Fashion Girl Halloween

It goes without saying that Halloween will be different this year. Will parents let their kids trick or treat? Will everyone be wearing a mask under their mask? Will we still eat mini Twix until we want to throw up? Maybe the last one’s just me, but no matter what your plans for this Halloween, a costume will put you in that holiday spirit.

For a fashion girl, Halloween is a chance to steal the spotlight with a fabulous fit. I have never liked wearing pre-made costumes like the ones you find at Party City. The fabric is cheap, they’re too expensive to only wear once, and there’s no guarantee that you’ll be the only one wearing it! To prove that you can make a cool costume out of your own wardrobe, I compiled a few last-minute fashion girl Halloween costume ideas. Feel free to gather inspiration or just enjoy these pictures of me dressing up!

Jennifer from Jennifer’s Body

As far as horror movies go, Jennifer’s Body wins the prize for being the hottest one I’ve ever seen. Megan Fox is a y2k queen in this female directed film, and to channel her mesmerizing beauty you’ll need a pleated skirt, a cropped jacket, and a push-up bra. While I did have fun wearing this fit, it would’ve worked better if I had long black hair (and double Ds).

Karl Lagerfeld

Best known for being the creative director of Chanel until his passing in 2019, Karl Lagerfeld is someone I look up to for his work in the fashion industry. I wanted to emulate his striking signature look complete with black tie and bedazzled tie clip. This costume would be perfect for anyone with platinum hair, and bonus points if you have a white cat to be your sidekick.

Cruella D'Ville

There are plenty of different ways to pull together a fashion girl version of this iconic Disney villain! I always loved Cruella D’Ville because of her striking aesthetic and glamorous persona. For this interpretation, I leaned more towards Glenn Close’s live action adaptation since my fur coat is at my parent’s house. To capture the D’Ville essence, you need lots of black and white clothes, a black and white wig, and a red lip. Thankfully, most of my closet is either black or white, so pulling together a fit was only about which pieces built the best silhouette.

Twiggy

Another fashion icon, Twiggy was a British model best known for her striking makeup and skinny, “twig” legs. Even if you don’t have “twiggy” legs (obviously my thighs are closer to “thundery”) you can still pull this costume together with a few items already in your closet. I layered opaque leggings under a boxy shift dress, pinned my hair to fake a Twiggy pixie, and drew on a few exaggerated bottom lashes. This look is all about the makeup, so have fun with it!

Cowgirl

I found this dress in the little girl section of Goodwill, and it’s quickly become one of my most valued gowns. I know everyone might not be so lucky as to have a lacy babydoll dress on hand, but I like the idea of adding a cowgirl hat to the prairie style dresses that have made a comeback of late. For makeup, a simple blushed complexion is perfect, maybe even with the addition of fake freckles.

Gucci Model

I’ve always admired the signature Gucci layered look, and it’s surprisingly easy to compile a Gucci-worthy ensemble. This costume will make you the envy of all your friends when they’re freezing their Playboy bunny butts off and you’re sweating under all your layers. I really just layered as many brightly colored articles as I could find and topped the look with a silk scarf and oversized sunglasses to achieve my Gucci dreams.
